1 Chronicles 16

1So they brought in the ark of God and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.

2When David finished offering up the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh.

3He distributed to every person of Israel, from man to woman, to each one a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a raisin cake.

4He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of Yahweh, to commemorate, to give thanks, and to praise Yahweh, the God of Israel.

5Asaph was the chief, and second to him was Zechariah; then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with instruments of harps and lyres; and Asaph sounded the cymbals.

6And Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were continually with the trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God.

7On that day then David first appointed Asaph and his brothers to give thanks to Yahweh.

8Give thanks to Yahweh; call on his name; make his deeds known among the peoples.

9Sing to him; sing praises to him; speak of all his wondrous deeds.

10Boast in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek Yahweh rejoice.

11Seek Yahweh and his strength; seek his face continually.

12Remember his wondrous deeds that he has done, his signs, and the judgments of his mouth.

13O offspring of Israel his servant, sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.

14He is Yahweh our God; his judgments are in all the earth.

15Remember his covenant forever, the word he commanded for a thousand generations.

16which he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac—

17And he confirmed it to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant,

18saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan, the portion of your inheritance.”

19when you were few in number, very few, and sojourners in it,

20And they wandered from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people.

21He allowed no man to oppress them, and he rebuked kings on their account,

22Do not touch my anointed ones, and do not harm my prophets.

23Sing to Yahweh, all the earth; proclaim his salvation from day to day.

24Declare his glory among the nations, his wondrous deeds among all the peoples.

25For Yahweh is great and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared above all gods.

26For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but Yahweh made the heavens.

27Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place.

28Ascribe to Yahweh, families of the peoples, ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.

29Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Bow down to Yahweh in holy splendor.

30Tremble before him, all the earth; indeed, the world is established; it shall not be moved.

31Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; and let them say among the nations, “Yahweh reigns!”

32Let the sea thunder, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and all that is in it.

33Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before Yahweh, for he comes to judge the earth.

34Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.

35And say, “Save us, O God of our salvation; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.”

36Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said, “Amen!” and praised Yahweh.

37So he left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, to minister before the ark continually, according to each day's requirement.

38And Obed-edom and their brothers, sixty-eight; and Obed-edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah were gatekeepers.

39And Zadok the priest and his fellow priests were before the tabernacle of Yahweh at the high place that was in Gibeon,

40to offer burnt offerings to Yahweh on the altar of burnt offering continually, morning and evening, and according to all that is written in the law of Yahweh, which he commanded for Israel.

41And with them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen, who were designated by name to give thanks to Yahweh, for his steadfast love endures forever.

42And with them were Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for sounding aloud, and instruments for the songs of God; and the sons of Jeduthun were at the gate.

43Then all the people went, each man to his house, and David turned to bless his household.
