Joab Captures Rabbah City
Open in the reader →1And it happened at the time of the turning of the year, at the time when kings go out, that Joab led out the army and devastated the land of the Ammonites, and he came and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed in Jerusalem. And Joab struck Rabbah and tore it down.
2And David took the crown of their king from his head and found that it weighed a talent of gold, and in it was a precious stone; and it was placed on David’s head. And he carried off very much plunder from the city.
3He brought out the people who were in it and put them to work with saws, iron tools, and axes. Thus David did to all the cities of the Ammonites. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
4After this, war arose at Gezer with the Philistines. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite struck down Sippai, one of the descendants of the Rephaim, and they were subdued.
5And there was war with the Philistines again, and Elhanan son of Jair struck down Lahmi, the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear shaft was like a weaver’s beam.
6And there was war again at Gath, and there was a man of great size whose fingers and toes were six each, twenty-four in all; he also was born to Rapha.
7And when he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, struck him down.
8These were born to Rapha in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
