Chronicles 22
Solomon Chosen to Build God
Open in the reader →1Then David said, “This is the house of Yahweh God, and this is the altar for burnt offering for Israel.”
And David ordered the foreigners who were in the land of Israel to be gathered, and he appointed stonecutters to cut dressed stones for building the house of God.
And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates and for the fastenings, and bronze in abundance without weight.
and cedar timbers without number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought cedar timbers in abundance to David.
And David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for Yahweh must be made exceedingly great in fame and splendor in all lands. I will now make preparation for it.” So David made abundant preparations before his death.
Then he called for Solomon his son and commanded him to build a house for Yahweh, the God of Israel.
And David said to Solomon his son, “As for me, it was in my heart to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God.”
But the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, ‘You have shed much blood and fought great wars. You shall not build a house for my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth before me.’
Behold, a son will be born to you. He will be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for Solomon will be his name, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days.
He will build a house for my name, and he will be a son to me, and I will be a father to him, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.
Now, my son, may Yahweh be with you, and may you prosper and build the house of Yahweh your God, as he has spoken concerning you.
Only, may Yahweh give you insight and understanding, and command you concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of Yahweh your God.
Then you will prosper, if you are careful to do the statutes and the judgments that Yahweh commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not fear, and do not be dismayed.
Behold, in my affliction I have prepared for the house of Yahweh one hundred thousand talents of gold, and one million talents of silver; and for the bronze and the iron there is no weighing, for it was in abundance. I have prepared timber and stones, and you may add to them.
And with you in abundance are workers for the task: stonecutters, and craftsmen of stone and wood, and every skilled man for every kind of work.
For the gold, the silver, the bronze, and the iron, there is no number. Rise up and work, and may Yahweh be with you.
Then David commanded all the leaders of Israel to help Solomon his son.
Is not Yahweh your God with you? And has he not given you rest on every side? For he has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land has been subdued before Yahweh and before his people.
Now set your heart and your soul to seek Yahweh your God. Rise up and build the sanctuary of Yahweh God, to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the name of Yahweh.
