1 Chronicles 29

1Then King David said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, the one God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.”

2And with all my strength I have prepared for the house of my God: the gold for the things of gold, and the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and the wood for the things of wood; onyx stones, settings, stones of antimony, variegated stones, every precious stone, and marble stones in abundance.

3Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I have a personal treasure of gold and silver, and I have given it to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house.

4three thousand talents of gold, from the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the buildings,

5gold for the things of gold, and silver for the things of silver, and for every kind of work by the hands of craftsmen. And who is willing to fill his hand today for Yahweh?

6Then the leaders of the fathers’ houses, and the leaders of the tribes of Israel, and the commanders of the thousands and of the hundreds, and the overseers of the king’s work, gave willingly.

7And they gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents of gold and ten thousand darics, and ten thousand talents of silver, and eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.

8Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of Yahweh, into the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9Then the people rejoiced because they had offered willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered willingly to Yahweh; and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

10Then David blessed Yahweh in the sight of all the assembly, and David said, “Blessed are you, Yahweh, the God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting.”

11Yours, O Yahweh, are the greatness and the power and the splendor and the victory and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on the earth is yours. Yours, O Yahweh, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all.

12Both riches and honor come from before you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to strengthen all.

13And now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise the name of your glory.

14But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer willingly like this? For everything comes from you, and from your hand we have given to you.

15For we are sojourners before you, and temporary residents, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.

16O Yahweh our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name is from your hand, and all things are yours.

17And I know, my God, that you test the heart and take pleasure in uprightness. I, in the uprightness of my heart, have willingly offered all these things, and now I have seen your people who are present here willingly offer to you with joy.

18O Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the intentions of the thoughts of the heart of your people, and direct their heart toward you.

19And give to Solomon my son a whole heart to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do all of them, and to build the fortress that I have prepared.

20Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless Yahweh your God.” And all the assembly blessed Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and bowed their heads and prostrated themselves before Yahweh and before the king.

21They sacrificed sacrifices to Yahweh and offered up burnt offerings to Yahweh on the next day after that day: one thousand bulls, one thousand rams, one thousand lambs, and their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.

22And they ate and drank before Yahweh on that day with great joy, and they made Solomon son of David king a second time, and they anointed him for Yahweh as ruler, and Zadok as priest.

23Then Solomon sat on the throne of Yahweh as king in place of David his father, and he prospered, and all Israel listened to him.

24And all the officials, the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David pledged allegiance to King Solomon.

25And Yahweh made Solomon exceedingly great in the sight of all Israel, and gave him royal majesty such as had not been on any king before him over Israel.

26And David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

27The days that he reigned over Israel were forty years. In Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years.

28And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.

29The acts of David the king, the former and the latter, are written in the records of Samuel the seer, and in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the records of Gad the seer.

30along with all his reign and his might, and the times that passed over him and over Israel and over all the kingdoms of the lands.
