1 Corinthians 11

1Become imitators of me, just as I also am of the Messiah.

2I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold firmly to the traditions just as I delivered them to you.

3But I want you to know that the head of every man is Messiah, and the head of a woman is the man, and the head of Messiah is God.

4Every man who prays or prophesies with something on his head dishonors his head.

5But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as having been shaved.

6For if a woman does not cover her head, she should also have her hair cut off; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaved, she should cover her head.

7For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

8For man is not from woman, but woman from man.

9For indeed, man was not created for the woman, but woman for the man.

10For this reason the woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels.

11Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not apart from man, nor man apart from woman.

12For just as the woman is from the man, so also the man is through the woman; but all things are from God.

13Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

14Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair, it is a dishonor to him,

15But if a woman has long hair, it is her glory, because her hair has been given to her instead of a covering.

16But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

17But in giving this instruction, I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse.

18For, in the first place, when you come together in assembly, I hear that divisions exist among you, and in part I believe it.

19For there must also be factions among you, so that those who are approved may also become evident among you.

20Therefore, when you come together in the same place, it is not to eat the Lord’s supper,

21For each one goes ahead with his own supper when it is time to eat, and one is hungry while another gets drunk.

22For do you not have houses for eating and drinking? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? In this I do not praise you.

23For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night when he was being handed over, took bread

24And after giving thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”

25In the same way also, after supper, he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Keep doing this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

26For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord.

28But let a man examine himself, and in this way let him eat from the bread and drink from the cup.

29For the one who eats and drinks eats and drinks judgment on himself, not discerning the body.

30For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a good number have fallen asleep.

31But if we judged ourselves, we would not be judged.

32But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined, so that we may not be condemned along with the world.

33So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

34If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you may not come together for judgment. And I will give directions about the rest when I come.
