1 Peter 1

1Peter, an apostle of Jesus the Messiah, to the chosen sojourners of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

2according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling with the blood of Jesus the Messiah: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus the Messiah, who according to his great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus the Messiah from the dead,

4into an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, kept in the heavens for you,

5who are being guarded by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,

7so that the proven genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus the Messiah.

8Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, yet believing in him, you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy,

9as you receive the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace for you searched and investigated carefully,

11inquiring into what person or what time the Spirit of Messiah in them was indicating, as it testified beforehand to the sufferings for Messiah and the glories after these things.

12To them it was revealed that they were serving not themselves but you in these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.

13Therefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, being fully clear-minded, set your hope completely on the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus the Messiah.

14as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves to the desires you formerly had in your ignorance,

15but as the Holy One who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct,

16because it is written, “You shall be holy, because I am holy.”

17And if you call as Father the one who judges impartially according to each person's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your sojourn.

18knowing that you were redeemed from your futile way of life handed down from your fathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold,

19but with the precious blood of Messiah, like that of a lamb without blemish and without spot,

20He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of the times for your sake,

21who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

22Having purified your souls by obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from the heart,

23having been born again, not from perishable seed but imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God.

24because all flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flower of grass; the grass withered, and the flower fell off.

25But the word of the Lord remains forever." And this is the word that was proclaimed as good news to you.
