2 Chronicles 14

1Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of Yahweh his God.

2He removed the foreign altars and the high places, shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherim.

3And he told Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to keep the law and the commandment.

4He removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom had rest before him.

5He built fortified cities in Judah, because the land was quiet and there was no war with him in those years, because Yahweh gave him rest.

6And he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars, while the land is still before us, because we have sought Yahweh our God. We have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

7And Asa had an army of three hundred thousand from Judah bearing large shields and spears, and from Benjamin two hundred eighty thousand bearing shields and drawing bows. All these were mighty men of valor.

8Zerah the Cushite came out against them with an army of a thousand thousands and three hundred chariots, and he came as far as Mareshah.

9And Asa went out before him, and they drew up for battle in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

10And Asa cried out to Yahweh his God and said, “Yahweh, there is none besides you to help between the mighty and the powerless. Help us, Yahweh our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. Yahweh our God, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.”

11And Yahweh struck down the Cushites before Asa and before Judah, and the Cushites fled.

12Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar, and the Cushites fell until none remained alive, for they were shattered before Yahweh and before his army. Then they carried off a very great amount of plunder.

13And they struck down all the cities around Gerar, for the terror of Yahweh was upon them. And they plundered all the cities, for there was much spoil in them.

14They also struck the tents of livestock, and they carried off sheep in abundance and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
