Chronicles 17
Jehoshaphat Follows God
Open in the reader →1And Jehoshaphat his son became king in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.
And he stationed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and he placed garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.
And Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of David his father and did not seek the Baals.
but he sought the God of his father and walked in his commandments, and not according to the deeds of Israel.
So Yahweh established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah gave tribute to Jehoshaphat; and he had riches and honor in abundance.
His heart was exalted in the ways of Yahweh, and furthermore he removed the high places and the Asherim from Judah.
And in the third year of his reign, he sent his officials—Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah—to teach in the cities of Judah.
And with them were the Levites: Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah; and with them were Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.
They taught in Judah, and the Book of the Law of Yahweh was with them; they went around through all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.
And the fear of Yahweh came upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.
And some of the Philistines were bringing Jehoshaphat tribute and silver, a burden; the Arabians also were bringing him flocks: 7,700 rams and 7,700 male goats.
And Jehoshaphat became greater and greater, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah.
And he had much work in the cities of Judah, and men of war, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem.
And these were their mustered divisions by their fathers’ houses: for Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valor.
And under his command was Jehohanan the commander, and with him were two hundred and eighty thousand.
And under his command was Amasiah son of Zichri, who volunteered himself to Yahweh, and with him were two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.
And from Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield.
And at his side was Jehozabad, and with him were 180,000 armed for war.
These were the ones serving the king, besides those whom the king had stationed in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
