2 Corinthians 7

1Therefore, since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

2Make room for us. We have wronged no one, corrupted no one, taken advantage of no one.

3I do not say this to condemn you, for I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together.

4I have great boldness toward you, and great boasting on your behalf. I am filled with encouragement; I overflow with joy in all our affliction.

5For even when we came into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were afflicted in every way—conflicts on the outside, fears on the inside—

6But God, who comforts the humble, comforted us by the coming of Titus.

7and not only by his coming, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted because of you, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning, and your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more.

8For even if I grieved you with the letter, I do not regret it—though I did regret it, for I see that that letter grieved you, though only for a time.

9Now I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into a change of mind; for you were grieved according to God, so that you might suffer no loss from us.

10For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation without regret, but worldly sorrow produces death.

11For see what earnestness this very grief according to God has produced in you: but also a defense, but also indignation, but also fear, but also longing, but also zeal, but also vindication. In every way you proved yourselves to be pure in the matter.

12So even if I wrote to you, it was not because of the one who did wrong, nor because of the one who was wronged, but so that your earnestness for us might be made known among you before God.

13For this reason we have been comforted. And in addition to our comfort, we rejoiced even more abundantly at Titus’s joy, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you.

14For if I have boasted to him at all about you, I was not put to shame; rather, just as we spoke everything to you in truth, so also our boasting to Titus proved true.

15And his affection for you is even greater as he remembers the obedience of all of you, how you received him with fear and trembling.

16I rejoice that in every way I have confidence in you.
