2 Peter 1

1Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus the Messiah, to those who have obtained a faith as precious as ours in the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus the Messiah:

2Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

3As his divine power has granted to us all things for life and godliness, through the knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence,

4through which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through these you may become sharers in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

5And for this very reason, making every effort, supply in your faith virtue, and in virtue knowledge,

6and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control, steadfastness; and in steadfastness, godliness,

7and in godliness, brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love.

8For if these things are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus the Messiah.

9For whoever lacks these things is blind, being shortsighted, having forgotten the cleansing of his former sins.

10Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you do these things, you will certainly never stumble.

11For in this way entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Messiah will be richly provided for you.

12Therefore I will always be ready to remind you about these things, even though you know them and have been established in the present truth.

13But I consider it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by way of reminder,

14knowing that the putting off of my tent is near, just as our Lord Jesus the Messiah made clear to me.

15And I will make every effort so that, after my departure, you may be able at any time to recall these things.

16For we did not make known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus the Messiah by following cleverly devised myths, but by becoming eyewitnesses of his majesty.

17For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, such a voice was borne to him from the Majestic Glory: “This is my Son, my Beloved, in whom I am well pleased”—

18And we ourselves heard this voice brought from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

19And we have the prophetic word more certain, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

20knowing this first: that every prophecy of Scripture does not come about from one's own interpretation.

21For prophecy was never brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
