2 Samuel 6

1David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.

2David arose and went, with all the people who were with him, from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name, the name of Yahweh of Armies, who is enthroned above the cherubim.

3They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart.

4They carried it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, with the ark of God, and Ahio was walking before the ark.

5And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before Yahweh with all kinds of cypress wood instruments, and with lyres, harps, tambourines, rattles, and cymbals.

6When they came to Nacon’s threshing floor, Uzza reached out to the ark of God and took hold of it, because the oxen stumbled.

7And the anger of Yahweh burned against Uzzah, and God struck him there for the error, and he died there beside the ark of God.

8And David was angry because Yahweh had broken out against Uzzah, and he called that place Perez-uzzah to this day.

9And David feared Yahweh that day, and he said, “How can the ark of Yahweh come to me?”

10So David was not willing to bring the ark of Yahweh to himself into the City of David, but David turned it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

11And the ark of Yahweh remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and Yahweh blessed Obed-edom and all his household.

12And it was reported to King David, saying, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing.

13And when those carrying the ark of Yahweh had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.

14And David was dancing with all his might before Yahweh, and David was wearing a linen ephod.

15So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of Yahweh with shouting and with the sound of the horn.

16As the ark of Yahweh was coming into the city of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out through the window and saw King David leaping and whirling before Yahweh, and she despised him in her heart.

17They brought in the ark of Yahweh and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.

18When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of hosts.

19He distributed to all the people, to the whole multitude of Israel, from man to woman, to each person one loaf of bread, one portion of meat, and one raisin cake. Then all the people went away, each to his house.

20Then David returned to bless his household. But Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How honored the king of Israel was today, uncovering himself today in the sight of the servant girls of his servants, as one of the vulgar fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”

21David said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of Yahweh, over Israel—and I celebrated before Yahweh.”

22And I will make myself even more contemptible than this, and I will be lowly in my own eyes; but with the servant girls of whom you have spoken, with them I will be honored.

23And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child until the day of her death.
