2 Timothy 1

1Paul, an apostle of Messiah Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of the life that is in Messiah Jesus,

2To Timothy, beloved child: grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Messiah Jesus our Lord.

3I thank God, whom I serve as my ancestors did with a clean conscience, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day.

4longing to see you, remembering your tears, so that I may be filled with joy,

5having been reminded of the sincere faith in you, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, I am persuaded that it is also in you.

6For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands.

7For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and love and self-control.

8Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me, his prisoner, but suffer hardship with the gospel according to the power of God,

9who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Messiah Jesus before eternal ages,

10but has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior Jesus the Messiah, who indeed abolished death and brought life and incorruptibility to light through the gospel,

11for which I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher.

12For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard my deposit until that day.

13Hold to the pattern of sound words that you heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Messiah Jesus.

14Guard the good deposit through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

15You know this: all those in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.

16May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chain.

17but when he was in Rome, he searched for me diligently and found me—

18May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day—and you know better how much he served in Ephesus.
