Deuteronomy 14

1You are sons of Yahweh your God. Do not cut yourselves, and do not make a bald spot between your eyes for the dead.

2For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God, and Yahweh has chosen you to be a treasured people for himself out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

3You shall not eat any detestable thing.

4These are the animals that you may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat.

5the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain sheep.

6You may eat any animal that has a split hoof, divided into two hoof-parts, and that chews the cud among the animals.

7However, these you shall not eat from among those that chew the cud or from among those that have a divided hoof: the camel, the hare, and the rock badger; because they chew the cud but do not divide the hoof. They are unclean for you.

8And the pig, because it has a split hoof but does not chew the cud, is unclean for you. You shall not eat any of its flesh, and you shall not touch its carcass.

9You may eat this from all that are in the waters: everything that has fins and scales you may eat.

10But anything that does not have fins and scales, you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.

11You may eat any clean bird.

12And these are the ones that you shall not eat from among them: the eagle, the bearded vulture, and the black vulture.

13the glede, and the falcon, and the kite according to its kind,

14and every raven according to its kind,

15the ostrich, the hawk, the gull, and the falcon according to its kind,

16the little owl, the great owl, and the white owl;

17the pelican, the carrion vulture, and the cormorant,

18the stork, and the heron according to its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat.

19And every swarming thing of the birds is unclean for you; they shall not be eaten.

20You may eat any clean bird.

21You shall not eat any carcass. You may give it to the sojourner who is within your gates, and he may eat it; or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.

22You shall surely tithe all the produce of your seed that comes out of the field, year by year.

23And you shall eat before Yahweh your God, in the place that he will choose for his name to dwell there, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, and your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to fear Yahweh your God all your days.

24And if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it, because the place that Yahweh your God will choose to put his name there is too far from you, when Yahweh your God blesses you,

25then you shall turn it into silver, bind the silver in your hand, and go to the place that Yahweh your God will choose.

26and spend the silver on whatever your appetite desires: cattle, sheep, wine, strong drink, or whatever your appetite asks for. And you shall eat there before Yahweh your God and rejoice, you and your household.

27And you shall not neglect the Levite who is within your gates, because he has no portion or inheritance with you.

28At the end of every three years, you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in that year and lay it up within your gates.

29And the Levite shall come, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates, and they shall eat and be satisfied, so that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.
