Moses Urges Israel Choose Life

Open in the reader →

And when all these things come upon you—the blessing and the curse that I have set before you—and you take them to heart among all the nations where Yahweh your God has driven you,

and you return to Yahweh your God and obey his voice, according to all that I am commanding you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul,

then Yahweh your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where Yahweh your God has scattered you.

If your outcasts are at the end of the heavens, from there Yahweh your God will gather you, and from there he will take you.

And Yahweh your God will bring you into the land that your fathers possessed, and you will possess it; and he will prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers.

And Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you may love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.

And Yahweh your God will put all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who pursued you.

And you shall return and obey the voice of Yahweh, and you shall do all his commandments that I am commanding you today.

And Yahweh your God will make you abound in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your womb, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, for good; for Yahweh will again rejoice over you for good, just as he rejoiced over your fathers.

if you obey the voice of Yahweh your God, keeping his commandments and his statutes that are written in this book of the law, if you return to Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

For this commandment that I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it far away.

It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will go up to heaven for us and get it for us and make us hear it, so that we may do it?’

And it is not beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will cross over to the other side of the sea for us and get it for us and make us hear it, so that we may do it?’

For the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, so that you may do it.

See, I have set before you today life and good, and death and evil.

which I am commanding you today: to love Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his judgments, so that you may live and multiply, and Yahweh your God may bless you in the land that you are entering there to possess it.

But if your heart turns away, and you do not listen, and you are drawn away and bow down to other gods and serve them,

I declare to you today that you will surely perish; you will not prolong your days on the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter there and possess it.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today: I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life, so that you and your offspring may live,

by loving Yahweh your God, by listening to his voice, and by holding fast to him; for he is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell on the land that Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them.
