Esther 7

1So the king and Haman came to drink with Queen Esther.

2And the king said to Esther on the second day also, at the banquet of wine, “What is your petition, Queen Esther? It will be granted to you. And what is your request? Even to half the kingdom, it shall be done.”

3Then Queen Esther answered and said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request.”

4For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to perish. But if we had been sold as male servants and female servants, I would have kept silent, for the adversary is not worth the damage to the king.

5Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen, “Who is he, and where is he, who has filled his heart to do this?”

6And Esther said, “A hostile and enemy man—this evil Haman!” Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.

7Then the king rose in his wrath from the wine banquet and went into the palace garden, but Haman remained to beg Queen Esther for his life, for he saw that the evil against him had been determined by the king.

8The king returned from the palace garden to the house of the wine feast, and Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, “Will he even assault the queen while I am in the house?” As the word went out from the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.

9Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs before the king, said, “Also, behold, the gallows that Haman made for Mordecai, who spoke good for the king, is standing at Haman’s house, fifty cubits high.” And the king said, “Hang him on it.”

10So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the king’s wrath subsided.
