Exodus 6

LORD Promises to Deliver

Open in the reader →

Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh, for by a strong hand he will let them go, and by a strong hand he will drive them out from his land.”

God spoke to Moses and said to him, “I am Yahweh.”

And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name, Yahweh, I was not known to them.

I also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land where they lived as sojourners.

And I also have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.

Therefore say to the sons of Israel, ‘I am Yahweh, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of Egypt, and I will deliver you from their slavery, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.’

And I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you will know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of Egypt.

And I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and I will give it to you as a possession. I am Yahweh.

So Moses spoke thus to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses because of discouragement and harsh slavery.

Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

Go, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he may let the sons of Israel go out from his land.

But Moses spoke before Yahweh, saying, “Behold, the sons of Israel have not listened to me; so how will Pharaoh listen to me, since I am uncircumcised in lips?”

Then Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and he commanded them concerning the sons of Israel and concerning Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the sons of Israel out from the land of Egypt.

These are the heads of their fathers’ houses: the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These are the clans of Reuben.

And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jakin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of the Canaanite woman. These are the clans of Simeon.

These are the names of Levi’s sons according to their generations: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. And the years of Levi’s life were one hundred thirty-seven years.

The sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei, by their clans.

The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. And the years of Kohath’s life were one hundred thirty-three years.

And the sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the clans of Levi according to their generations.

Amram took Jochebed, his father’s sister, as his wife, and she bore to him Aaron and Moses. The years of Amram’s life were 137 years.

And the sons of Izhar: Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.

And the sons of Uzziel: Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.

Aaron took Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, as his wife, and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

The sons of Korah: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These are the clans of the Korahites.

And Eleazar son of Aaron took for himself a wife from the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites by their clans.

It was Aaron and Moses to whom Yahweh said, “Bring the sons of Israel out from the land of Egypt by their hosts.”

These are the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt to bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt—this is Moses and Aaron.

It happened on the day when Yahweh spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt—

Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, “I am Yahweh. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak to you.”

But Moses said before the LORD, “Look, I am uncircumcised of lips; so how will Pharaoh listen to me?”
