Ezekiel 28

1And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

2Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: Because your heart is proud, and you say, “I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the seas,” yet you are a man and not a god, though you set your heart like the heart of gods.”

3Look, you are wiser than Danel; no hidden thing is obscure to you.

4By your wisdom and by your understanding you made wealth for yourself, and you put gold and silver into your treasuries.

5By your great wisdom in your trade you increased your wealth, and your heart became proud because of your wealth.

6Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have made your heart like the heart of a god,

7Therefore, behold, I am bringing strangers against you, the most ruthless of the nations; they will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, and they will defile your splendor.

8They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die the death of one slain in the heart of the seas.

9Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’ before the one who kills you? But you are a man, and not a god, in the hand of those who wound you.

10You will die the death of the uncircumcised by the hand of foreigners, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.

11And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

12Son of man, raise a lament over the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.’

13You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: ruby, topaz, and diamond; beryl, onyx, and jasper; sapphire, turquoise, and emerald; and gold. The workmanship of your tambourines and your sockets was in you; on the day you were created, they were prepared.

14You were an anointed guardian cherub, and I placed you on the holy mountain of God; you walked in the midst of stones of fire.

15You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, until unrighteousness was found in you.

16By the abundance of your trade, your midst was filled with violence, and you sinned; so I cast you as profane from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

17Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. I cast you to the earth; I set you before kings, for them to look at you.

18By the abundance of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade, you profaned your sanctuaries; so I brought out fire from your midst—it consumed you—and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who saw you.

19All who know you among the peoples are appalled at you; you have become a horror, and you will be no more forever.

20And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

21Son of man, set your face toward Sidon, and prophesy against her.

22and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, Sidon, and I will be glorified in your midst. And they will know that I am Yahweh when I execute judgments in her and show myself holy in her.’

23And I will send pestilence into her, and blood into her streets; the slain will fall in her midst by the sword all around her. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.

24And the house of Israel will no longer have a brier that causes bitterness or a thorn that causes pain from all those around them who despise them. Then they will know that I am the Lord GOD.

25Thus says the Lord GOD: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they were scattered, and I show myself holy among them in the sight of the nations, then they will dwell on their own land that I gave to my servant Jacob.

26They will dwell on it securely, and they will build houses and plant vineyards. They will dwell securely when I execute judgments on all those who treat them with contempt all around them. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God.
