Ezekiel 32
Pharaoh Falls to Babylon
Open in the reader →1And it happened in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, that the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
Son of man, raise a lament over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him: You compared yourself to a young lion among the nations, but you were like the monster in the seas; you burst forth in your rivers, and muddied the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.
Thus says the Lord GOD: I will spread my net over you with an assembly of many peoples, and they will haul you up in my dragnet.
I will cast you onto the land; I will throw you down on the open field, and I will cause every bird of the heavens to settle on you, and I will satisfy the beasts of all the earth with you.
And I will put your flesh on the mountains, and I will fill the valleys with your carcass.
I will drench the land with your flowing blood up to the mountains, and the ravines will be filled with you.
When I extinguish you, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.
All the lights of light in the heavens I will darken over you, and I will put darkness over your land, declares the Lord GOD.
And I will trouble the hearts of many peoples when I bring your ruin among the nations, into lands that you have not known.
I will make many peoples appalled at you, and their kings will shudder over you when I brandish my sword before them; and they will tremble every moment, each man for his own life, on the day of your downfall.
For thus says the Lord GOD: The sword of the king of Babylon will come upon you.
By the swords of mighty men I will make your multitude fall— all of them the ruthless ones of the nations. They will plunder the pride of Egypt, and all her multitude will be destroyed.
And I will destroy all its beasts from beside its abundant waters, and no human foot will muddy them anymore, nor will the hooves of beasts muddy them.
Then I will let their waters settle, and I will make their rivers flow like oil, declares the Lord GOD.
When I make the land of Egypt a desolation, and the land is stripped of all that fills it, when I strike down all who dwell in it, then they will know that I am Yahweh.
This is a lamentation, and the daughters of the nations will lament over her. They will lament over Egypt and over all her multitude, declares the Lord GOD.
And it happened in the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
Son of man, wail over the multitude of Egypt, and bring her down, her and the daughters of mighty nations, to the land beneath, with those who go down to the pit.
Whom do you surpass in beauty? Go down, and lie with the uncircumcised.
They will fall among those slain by the sword. The sword is given; drag her away, and all her multitude.
The mighty among the chiefs will speak to him from the midst of Sheol, with his helpers: ‘They have gone down; they lie still, the uncircumcised, slain by the sword.’
There is Assyria and all her assembly, with his graves all around him; all of them are slain, fallen by the sword.
whose graves were set in the remotest parts of the pit, and her assembly was around her grave—all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who spread terror in the land of the living.
There is Elam and all her multitude, all around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who went down uncircumcised to the land below, who spread their terror in the land of the living; and they bore their shame with those who go down to the pit.
Among the slain they made a bed for her with all her multitude; her graves are all around her. All of them are uncircumcised, slain by the sword, because their terror was set in the land of the living. So they bore their disgrace with those who go down to the pit; she was placed among the slain.
There are Meshech and Tubal, and all her multitude; their graves are all around him. All of them are uncircumcised, slain by the sword, because they spread their terror in the land of the living.
And they do not lie with the mighty, the fallen from among the uncircumcised, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, whose swords were placed under their heads, and whose iniquities were upon their bones; for the terror of the mighty was in the land of the living.
But you, in the midst of the uncircumcised, will be broken and will lie with those slain by the sword.
There is Edom, her kings and all her princes, who were laid among those slain by the sword despite their might. They lie with the uncircumcised and with those who go down to the pit.
There are all the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who went down with the slain in the terror they caused by their might, ashamed. They lie uncircumcised with those slain by the sword, and they bear their disgrace with those who go down to the pit.
Pharaoh will see them and be comforted over all his multitude, Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord GOD.
For I put his terror in the land of the living, and he will be laid among the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword—Pharaoh and all his multitude, declares the Lord GOD.
