Hebrews 2

1For this reason, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away.

2For if the message spoken through angels proved firm, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,

3How will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? This salvation, having at first been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him,

4while God also bore witness with signs and wonders and various miracles and distributions of the Holy Spirit according to his will.

5For he did not subject the world to come to angels, about which we are speaking.

6But someone has testified somewhere, saying, “What is man, that you remember him, or the son of man, that you care for him?”

7You made him lower than the angels for a little while; you crowned him with glory and honor.

8You subjected all things under his feet.” For in subjecting all things to him, he left nothing not subjected to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him.

9But we see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

10For it was fitting for him—for whom are all things and through whom are all things—in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the pioneer of their salvation through sufferings.

11For both the one who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all from one; for this reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers,

12saying, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to you.”

13And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God has given me.”

14Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, so that through death he might nullify the one who has the power of death—that is, the devil,

15and free those who, through fear of death, were subject to slavery all their lives.

16For surely it is not angels that he helps, but the offspring of Abraham.

17Therefore he had to become like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

18For because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
