Isaiah 60
Redeemer Comes to Zion’s Aid
Open in the reader →1Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of Yahweh has risen upon you.
For look, darkness will cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will rise upon you, and his glory will appear over you.
Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
Lift up your eyes all around and see; all of them gather together; they come to you. Your sons will come from far away, and your daughters will be carried on the hip.
Then you will see and be radiant, and your heart will tremble and swell, because the abundance of the sea will be turned to you; the wealth of the nations will come to you.
A multitude of camels will cover you, the young camels of Midian and Ephah; all of them will come from Sheba. They will carry gold and frankincense, and they will proclaim the praises of Yahweh.
All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered to you; the rams of Nebaioth will minister to you. They will go up with acceptance on my altar, and I will beautify my glorious house.
Who are these that fly like a cloud, and like doves to their windows?
Surely the coastlands wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring your sons from far away, with their silver and their gold with them, for the name of Yahweh your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because he has glorified you.
The sons of foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will minister to you; for in my wrath I struck you, but in my favor I have had compassion on you.
Your gates will be open continually; day and night they will not be shut, so that the wealth of the nations may be brought to you, with their kings led in procession.
For the nation and the kingdom that will not serve you will perish, and those nations will be utterly laid waste.
The glory of Lebanon will come to you—cypress, plane tree, and pine together—to beautify the place of my sanctuary, and I will honor the place of my feet.
The sons of those who afflicted you will come to you bowed down, and all who despised you will bow down at the soles of your feet; and they will call you The City of Yahweh, Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
Instead of your being forsaken and hated, with no one passing through, I will make you an everlasting majesty, a joy from generation to generation.
You will nurse on the milk of nations, and you will suck the breast of kings; and you will know that I, Yahweh, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
Instead of bronze I will bring gold, and instead of iron I will bring silver; instead of wood, bronze, and instead of stones, iron. And I will make peace your overseers, and righteousness your taskmasters.
Violence will no longer be heard in your land, devastation or destruction within your borders; and you will call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.
The sun will no longer be for you the light by day, nor will the moon shine for you for brightness; but Yahweh will be for you an everlasting light, and your God your glory.
Your sun will no longer go down, and your moon will not withdraw; for Yahweh will be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning will be ended.
And all your people will be righteous; forever they will possess the land, the shoot of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.
The smallest will become a thousand, and the least a mighty nation. I am Yahweh; in its time I will hasten it.
