Jeremiah 30

1The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

2Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Write for yourself in a scroll all the words that I have spoken to you.

3For look, days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel and Judah, says the LORD, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.

4And these are the words that Yahweh spoke concerning Israel and Judah:

5For thus says Yahweh: “We have heard a sound of trembling, of fear, and there is no peace.”

6Ask now, and see: does a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labor, and every face turned pale?

7Alas! For that day is great; there is none like it. It is a time of distress for Jacob, yet he will be saved out of it.

8And it shall happen in that day, declares Yahweh of Armies, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and I will tear off your bonds, and foreigners shall no longer make him their servant.

9They will serve Yahweh their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.

10But as for you, do not fear, my servant Jacob, declares Yahweh, and do not be dismayed, Israel; for behold, I am saving you from far away, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return and be quiet and at ease, with no one to make him afraid.

11For I am with you—oracle of Yahweh—to save you. For I will make a full end of all the nations where I have scattered you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will discipline you with justice, and I will by no means leave you unpunished.

12For thus says Yahweh: Your fracture is incurable; your wound is grievous.

13There is no one to plead your case for your wound; there is no healing for you, no remedy.

14All your lovers have forgotten you; they do not seek you. For I have struck you with the wound of an enemy, with cruel discipline, because of the greatness of your iniquity; your sins are numerous.

15Why do you cry out over your injury? Your pain is incurable. Because your iniquity is great, because your sins are many, I have done these things to you.

16Therefore all who devour you will be devoured, and all your adversaries, every one of them, will go into captivity; those who plunder you will become plunder, and all who prey on you I will give up to prey.

17For I will bring healing to you, and I will heal you from your wounds, declares Yahweh, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion; no one cares for her.’

18Thus says Yahweh: Behold, I am restoring the fortunes of the tents of Jacob, and I will have compassion on his dwellings. The city will be rebuilt on its mound, and the palace will stand in its proper place.

19From them will come thanksgiving and the sound of those who rejoice; I will multiply them, and they will not be few; I will honor them, and they will not be insignificant.

20His children will be as in former times, and his congregation will be established before me; and I will punish all his oppressors.

21His ruler will be one of them, and his governor will come out from his midst. I will bring him near, and he will approach me, for who is this who has pledged his heart to approach me? declares Yahweh.

22And you will be my people, and I will be your God.

23Look, Yahweh’s storm of wrath has gone out, a sweeping tempest; it will whirl down on the head of the wicked.

24The burning anger of Yahweh will not turn back until he has done it, and until he has established the purposes of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it.
