Jeremiah 47
Philistines Face Unstoppable Flood
Open in the reader →1This is the word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.
2Thus says the LORD: Behold, waters are rising from the north, and they will become an overflowing torrent; they will overflow the land and its fullness, the city and those who dwell in it. Then mankind will cry out, and every inhabitant of the land will wail.
3At the sound of the stamping of the hooves of his mighty horses, at the rumbling of his chariots, at the roar of his wheels, fathers do not turn to their sons because of the helplessness of their hands.
4because of the day that is coming to devastate all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every surviving helper. For Yahweh is devastating the Philistines, the remnant of the island of Caphtor.
5Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon has been silenced, the remnant of their valley. How long will you gash yourself?
6Ah, sword of the LORD, how long will you not be quiet? Return to your sheath; rest and be still.
7How can you be quiet when Yahweh has commanded it? Against Ashkelon and against the seacoast—there he has appointed it.
