Job 42

1Then Job answered Yahweh and said:

2I know that you can do all things, and no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

3‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have spoken, but I did not understand—things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.

4Hear, please, and I will speak; I will ask you, and make it known to me.

5I had heard of you by report, but now my eye has seen you.

6Therefore I recant, and I repent in dust and ashes.

7After Yahweh had spoken these words to Job, Yahweh said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My anger burns against you and against your two friends, because you have not spoken rightly about me, as my servant Job has.”

8Now take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job and offer up a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept him, so that I may not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken rightly about me, as my servant Job has.

9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as Yahweh had spoken to them, and Yahweh accepted Job.

10And Yahweh restored Job’s fortunes when he prayed for his friends, and Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before.

11Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all who had known him before came to him, and they ate bread with him in his house. They showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the calamity that Yahweh had brought upon him. And each one gave him one qesitah and one gold ring.

12And Yahweh blessed Job’s later life more than his earlier life. And he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand pairs of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

13He also had seven sons and three daughters.

14He named the first Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch.

15And nowhere in all the land were women found as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.

16After this, Job lived one hundred and forty years and saw his sons and grandsons to the fourth generation.

17And Job died, old and full of days.
