Jubilees 48

1And in the sixth year of the third week of the forty-ninth jubilee, you departed and lived in the land of Midian for five weeks of years and one year, and you returned to Egypt in the second week, in the second year, in the fiftieth jubilee.

2Again, in the second year of the fiftieth jubilee, you know what was spoken to you on Mount Sinai, and what the prince Mastema desired to do to you when you were returning to Egypt.

3On the way, at the lodging-place, he met you. Did he not desire with all his power to kill you and to save the Egyptians from your hand, when he saw that you had been sent to do this and to execute judgment upon Egypt?

4But I delivered you from his hand, and you did the signs and wonders which you were sent to do in Egypt against Pharaoh and against all his house and against his servants and against his people.

5And the LORD executed a great vengeance on them for Israel: he struck them with blood, and with frogs, and with gnats, and with dog-flies, and with evil boils that burst out in blisters, and their livestock with death, and with hailstones—by this he destroyed everything that grew for them—and with locusts that devoured what had been left for them from the hail, and with darkness, and with the death of their firstborn, of man and beast; and on all their gods the LORD executed vengeance.

6And he burned them with fire. And everything was entrusted into your hand so that you might do it, before it was done, and you were present.

7And you were to speak before the king of Egypt, before all his servants and before his people. And everything happened at your word: ten great and grievous judgments came upon the land of Egypt, for you to carry out.

8Through him he took vengeance for Israel. And the LORD did everything for Israel, and according to his ordinance, which he established with Abraham, so that he might take vengeance on them just as they had enslaved them by force.

9And the prince Mastema stood up against you and sought to cast you into Pharaoh’s hand, and he helped the magicians of Egypt, and they stood and acted before you. We indeed permitted them to do evil, but we did not allow healing to be performed by their hands. But the LORD struck them with evil sores, and they were unable to continue resisting, because we made them incapable of performing even one sign of enchantment. And through all the signs and wonders the prince Mastema was put to shame, until, when he grew strong, he cried out to the Egyptians that they should pursue after you with all the power of Egypt, with their chariots and with their horses and with all the multitude of the people of Egypt. And I stood between the Egyptians and Israel, and we delivered Israel from his hand and from the hand of his people, and the LORD brought them out through the midst of the sea as on dry land.

10And all the people whom he brought out pursued after them, after Israel, and Yahweh our God cast them into the midst of the sea, into its depths, beneath the sons of Israel, just as the people of Egypt had cast their sons into the river. A thousand thousand and ten thousand mighty men were destroyed because of one nursing infant of the children of your people whom they had thrown into the river.

11the judgment that they had devised in the midst of the river against the children of your people.

12And on the fourteenth day, and on the fifteenth, and on the sixteenth, and on the seventeenth, and on the eighteenth, the angel Mastema was bound and restrained from following after the children of Israel.

13Israel, so that he could not accuse them.

14And all the people whom he had brought out pursued after Israel, and the Lord God cast them into the midst of the sea, into the depths of the abyss, beneath the children of Israel, just as the people of Egypt had cast their children into the river; He took vengeance on a million of them, and one thousand mighty men were destroyed, and those who pursued them perished because of envy.

15And on the fourteenth day, and on the fifteenth, and on the sixteenth, and on the seventeenth, and on the eighteenth, the prince Mastema was bound and imprisoned behind the children of Israel.
