Luke 22

1The Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called Passover, was drawing near.

2And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might kill him, for they were afraid of the people.

3Then Satan entered into Judas, the one called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.

4And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might hand him over to them.

5And they rejoiced and agreed to give him money.

6And he agreed, and began seeking an opportunity to hand him over to them apart from the crowd.

7Then the day of Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover had to be sacrificed.

8And he sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.”

9They said to him, “Where do you want us to prepare it?”

10And he said to them, “Look, when you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters.”

11And you will say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’

12And he will show you a large furnished upper room; prepare there.

13So they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

14And when the hour came, he reclined at the table, and the apostles with him.

15And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.”

16For I tell you that I will certainly not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17And after receiving a cup and giving thanks, he said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves.”

18For I tell you, from now on I will certainly not drink from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.

19And taking bread, after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”

20And likewise the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

21But look, the hand of the one betraying me is with me on the table.

22For the Son of Man indeed goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man through whom he is betrayed.

23And they began to discuss among themselves which one of them might be the one about to do this.

24A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greater.

25But he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those exercising authority over them are called benefactors.”

26But you are not to be like that. Instead, let the greater among you become like the younger, and the one who leads like the one who serves.

27For who is greater, the one reclining at the table or the one serving? Is it not the one reclining at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

28But you are the ones who have remained with me in my trials.

29And I appoint to you, just as my Father appointed to me, a kingdom.

30so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31Simon, Simon, look: Satan has demanded to have all of you, to sift you like wheat.

32But I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.

33But he said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.”

34But he said, “I tell you, Peter, a rooster will not crow today until you deny three times that you know me.”

35And he said to them, “When I sent you out without a money bag and a travel bag and sandals, did you lack anything?” And they said, “Nothing.”

36But now, let the one who has a money bag take it, and likewise a travel bag; and let the one who does not have one sell his cloak and buy a sword.

37For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was counted with the lawless.’ For what concerns me has its fulfillment.

38And they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.”

39And going out, he went as was his custom to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed him.

40When he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

41And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and kneeling down, he was praying.

42saying, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours be done.”

43Then an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.

44And being in agony, he was praying more intensely; and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.

45And after rising from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow.

46And he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray, so that you may not enter into temptation.”

47While he was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was going before them, and he came near to Jesus to kiss him.

48But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

49And when those around him saw what was about to happen, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”

50And one of them struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear.

51But Jesus answered, “Enough of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him.

52But Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple, and the elders who had come against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?”

53Day after day, while I was with you in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the authority of darkness.

54After arresting him, they led him away and brought him into the high priest’s house; but Peter was following at a distance.

55And after they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter was sitting among them.

56Then a certain servant girl, seeing him seated by the light and looking intently at him, said, “This man also was with him.”

57But he denied it, saying, “I do not know him, woman.”

58And after a little while, another man, seeing him, said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.”

59And after about one hour had passed, another man insisted, saying, “Truly, this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.”

60But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.

61And the Lord turned and looked at Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”

62And after going outside, he wept bitterly.

63And the men who were holding him mocked him while beating him,

64And after covering him, they kept asking, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?”

65And they were saying many other blasphemous things against him.

66And when day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their Sanhedrin,

67saying, “If you are the Messiah, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will certainly not believe;”

68But if I ask, you will certainly not answer.

69But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.

70Then they all said, “So you are the Son of God?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.”

71Then they said, “Why do we still need testimony? For we ourselves have heard it from his own mouth.”
