Mark 9

1And he was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will certainly not taste death until they see the kingdom of God having come in power.”

2And after six days, Jesus takes Peter and James and John, and brings them up onto a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,

3And his clothes became gleaming, very white, such as no launderer on earth is able to whiten.

4And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.

5And Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here, and let us make three shelters: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

6For he did not know what he should answer, for they were terrified.

7And a cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud: “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.”

8And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone except Jesus alone with them.

9And as they were coming down from the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one what they had seen, except when the Son of Man had risen from among the dead.

10And they kept the matter to themselves, discussing what it meant to rise from the dead.

11And they were asking him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

12He said to them, “Elijah indeed, having come first, restores all things. And how is it written about the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt?”

13But I tell you that Elijah also has come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written about him.

14And when they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.

15And immediately the whole crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running up to him, greeted him.

16And he asked them, “What are you discussing with one another?”

17And one from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, having a mute spirit.”

18And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. And I told your disciples to cast it out, but they were not able.

19And answering them, he says, “O unbelieving generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I put up with you? Bring him to me.”

20And they brought him to him. And when the spirit saw him, it immediately convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming.

21And he asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.”

22And many times it has thrown him both into fire and into waters to destroy him. But if you can do anything, help us, having compassion on us.

23But Jesus said to him, “ ‘If you can’? All things are possible for the one who believes.”

24Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

25But when Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

26And after crying out and convulsing him greatly, it came out; and he became like a dead man, so that many were saying, “He is dead.”

27But Jesus, taking hold of his hand, raised him up, and he stood up.

28And when he had entered the house, his disciples were asking him privately, “Why were we not able to cast it out?”

29And he said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything except prayer.”

30And from there they went on through Galilee, and he did not want anyone to know.

31For he was teaching his disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is being handed over into the hands of men, and they will kill him, and after he is killed, after three days he will rise.”

32But they did not understand the statement, and they were afraid to ask him.

33And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house, he was asking them, “What were you discussing on the way?”

34But they kept silent, because on the road they had argued with one another about who was greater.

35And sitting down, he called the twelve and says to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he will be last of all and servant of all.”

36And taking a child, he set him in their midst, and taking him in his arms, he said to them:

37Whoever receives one of such children in my name receives me; and whoever receives me receives not me, but the one who sent me.

38John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he was not following us.”

39But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for there is no one who will do a mighty work in my name and soon be able to speak evil of me.”

40For whoever is not against us is for us.

41For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in the name that you are Messiah's, truly I say to you, he will certainly not lose his reward.

42And whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it is better for him if a donkey millstone is put around his neck and he is thrown into the sea.

43And if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life crippled than, having two hands, to go away into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire.

44where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.

45And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life lame than, having both feet, to be thrown into Gehenna.

46where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.

47And if your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than, having two eyes, to be thrown into Gehenna,

48where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.

49For everyone will be salted with fire.

50Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.
