Matthew 28
Jesus Rises and Sends Disciples
Open in the reader →1After the Sabbath, as it was dawning toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb.
And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, came to the tomb, rolled away the stone, and sat on it.
His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.
And from fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men.
But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are seeking Jesus who has been crucified.”
He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come, see the place where he was lying.
And go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and look, he is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Look, I have told you.
And leaving the tomb quickly, with fear and great joy, they ran to report to his disciples.
And behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” And they came up, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him.
Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go, tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
While they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.
And after gathering with the elders and taking counsel, they gave a considerable sum of silver to the soldiers,
saying, “Say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him while we were sleeping.’”
And if this comes to a hearing before the governor, we will persuade him and keep you out of trouble.
So they took the silver and did as they had been instructed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.
The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them,
And when they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted.
And Jesus came near and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to keep all that I commanded you. And behold, I am with you all the days, until the end of the age.
