Numbers 10

1And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

2Make for yourself two silver trumpets; you shall make them of hammered work, and they shall be for you for summoning the congregation and for setting out the camps.

3When they blow them, all the congregation shall assemble before you at the entrance of the tent of meeting.

4But if they blow only one, then the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather to you.

5When you blow an alarm blast, the camps that are encamped on the east side shall set out.

6When you blow a second alarm, the camps that are encamped on the south side shall set out; they shall blow an alarm for their departures.

7But when assembling the congregation, you shall blow, and you shall not sound an alarm.

8And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and they shall be for you a permanent statute throughout your generations.

9And when you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you shall be remembered before Yahweh your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies.

10And on the day of your gladness, and at your appointed times, and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings, and they shall be for you as a memorial before your God. I am Yahweh your God.

11And it happened in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, that the cloud lifted from over the tabernacle of the testimony.

12And the sons of Israel set out by stages from the wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud settled in the wilderness of Paran.

13So they set out for the first time at the command of Yahweh through Moses.

14The standard of the camp of the sons of Judah set out first, by their divisions; and over its division was Nahshon son of Amminadab.

15And over the company of the tribe of the sons of Issachar was Nethanel the son of Zuar.

16And over the company of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun was Eliab son of Helon.

17Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set out, carrying the tabernacle.

18Then the banner of the camp of Reuben set out by their divisions, and over its company was Elizur son of Shedeur.

19And over the company of the tribe of the sons of Simeon was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.

20And over the company of the tribe of the sons of Gad was Eliasaph son of Deuel.

21Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things, and the tabernacle was set up before they arrived.

22Then the banner of the camp of the sons of Ephraim set out by their divisions, and over its division was Elishama son of Ammihud.

23And over the company of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh was Gamaliel son of Pedahzur.

24And over the company of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin was Abidan son of Gideoni.

25Then the banner of the camp of the sons of Dan set out, serving as the rear guard for all the camps by their divisions; and over its company was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

26And over the company of the tribe of the sons of Asher was Pagiel son of Ocran.

27And over the company of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali was Ahira son of Enan.

28These were the stages of the sons of Israel by their divisions, and they set out.

29And Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which Yahweh said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will do you good, for Yahweh has spoken good concerning Israel.”

30But he said to him, “I will not go. Rather, I will go to my own land and to my own kindred.”

31And he said, “Please do not leave us, for you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will be eyes for us.”

32And if you go with us, then whatever good Yahweh does for us, we will do good to you.

33So they set out from the mountain of Yahweh for a journey of three days, and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh set out before them for a journey of three days, to seek out a resting place for them.

34And the cloud of Yahweh was over them by day when they set out from the camp.

35And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, “Rise up, O Yahweh, and let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you.”

36And when it came to rest, he would say, “Return, O Yahweh, to the myriads of the thousands of Israel.”
