Proverbs 29

1A man who is often reproved yet stiffens his neck will suddenly be broken beyond healing.

2When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.

3A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad, but one who keeps company with prostitutes destroys wealth.

4By justice a king establishes a land, but one who exacts gifts tears it down.

5A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his steps.

6In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare, but the righteous sings for joy and rejoices.

7A righteous man knows the case of the poor, but a wicked man has no understanding.

8Mockers inflame a city, but wise men turn away anger.

9If a wise man has a dispute with a foolish man, whether he rages or laughs, there is no rest.

10Bloodthirsty men hate the blameless, but the upright seek to preserve his life.

11A fool lets out all his spirit, but a wise man holds it back.

12If a ruler listens to lies, all his servants are wicked.

13A poor man and an oppressor meet; Yahweh gives light to the eyes of both of them.

14A king who judges the poor faithfully—his throne will be established forever.

15A rod and reproof give wisdom, but a boy left to himself brings shame to his mother.

16When the wicked increase, transgression increases; but the righteous will see their downfall.

17Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delights to your soul.

18Where there is no revelation, a people runs wild, but the one who keeps the law is happy.

19A servant is not corrected by words alone, for though he understands, there is no response.

20Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

21Whoever pampers his servant from youth, in the end he will become like a son.

22An angry man stirs up strife, and a hot-tempered man abounds in transgression.

23A man's pride will bring him low, but one who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.

24Whoever shares with a thief hates his own life; he hears an adjuration but does not testify.

25Fearing people is a snare, but whoever trusts in Yahweh will be secure.

26Many seek the favor of a ruler, but justice for a man comes from Yahweh.

27An unjust man is detestable to the righteous, and one whose way is upright is detestable to the wicked.
