Psalms 137

Exiles Weep Remember Jerusalem

Open in the reader →

1By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down; we also wept when we remembered Zion.

2On the poplars in its midst we hung our lyres.

3For there our captors asked us for songs, and our tormentors for gladness: “Sing for us one of the songs of Zion.”

4How can we sing the song of Yahweh on foreign soil?

5If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget.

6May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not place Jerusalem above my greatest joy.

7Yahweh, remember the Edomites for what they said on Jerusalem’s day: “Lay it bare, lay it bare, down to its foundation!”

8Daughter of Babylon, devastated one, blessed is the one who pays you back for what you did to us.

9Blessed is the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock.
