Simeon Fights Envy Spirit
Open in the reader →1And now, my children, hear me and guard yourselves against the spirit of deceit and envy.
2For envy masters the whole mind of a person, and does not allow him either to eat or to drink or to do anything good.
3But it always urges him to kill the one envied; and the one envied always flourishes, while the one who envies wastes away.
4For two years, then, in fear of the Lord I afflicted my soul with fasting, and I learned that the release from envy comes through fear of God.
5For if anyone takes refuge in the Lord, the evil spirit runs away from him, and the mind becomes light.
6And from then on he has compassion for the one envied, and forgives those who love him, and so he ceases from envy.
