Zechariah 8

Zion Rebuilt in Peace

Open in the reader →

And the word of Yahweh of hosts came, saying,

Thus says Yahweh of hosts: I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and with great wrath I am jealous for her.

Thus says Yahweh: I have returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of Yahweh of Armies, the Holy Mountain.

Thus says Yahweh of hosts: Old men and old women will yet sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with his staff in his hand because of great age.

And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls playing in its streets.

Thus says Yahweh of hosts: If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes? declares Yahweh of hosts.

Thus says Yahweh of hosts: Behold, I will save my people from the land of the east and from the land of the setting of the sun.

I will bring them, and they will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they will be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Let your hands be strong, you who in these days are hearing these words from the mouth of the prophets who were present on the day the house of Yahweh of Armies was founded for the temple to be built.

For before those days there was no wage for man, and no wage for beast; and for the one going out and the one coming in there was no peace because of the adversary, and I set every man against his neighbor.

But now I will not be to the remnant of this people as in the former days, declares Yahweh of Armies.

For there will be the seed of peace: the vine will give its fruit, the land will give its produce, and the heavens will give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things.

And it shall happen that just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Do not fear; let your hands be strong.

For thus says Yahweh of Armies: Just as I purposed to do harm to you when your fathers provoked me to wrath, says Yahweh of Armies, and I did not relent,

So now I have returned and purposed in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Do not fear.

These are the things that you must do: speak truth to one another; judge with truth and a judgment of peace in your gates.

And let no man devise evil against his neighbor in his heart, and do not love a false oath, for all these are what I hate, declares Yahweh.

And the word of Yahweh of hosts came to me, saying:

Thus says Yahweh of hosts: The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall become for the house of Judah joy and gladness and good appointed feasts. Therefore love truth and peace.

Thus says Yahweh of hosts: Yet peoples shall come, and the inhabitants of many cities,

And the inhabitants of one city will go to another, saying, ‘Let us surely go to entreat the favor of the LORD and to seek the LORD of hosts.’ ‘I myself am going too.’

And many peoples and mighty nations will come to seek Yahweh of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of Yahweh.

Thus says Yahweh of Armies: In those days ten men from every language of the nations will take hold—yes, they will take hold of the garment edge of a Jewish man, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’
