1 Chronicles 24

1These were the divisions of the sons of Aaron: the sons of Aaron were Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

2But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and they had no sons; so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.

3David, with Zadok from the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech from the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their appointment in their service.

4The sons of Eleazar were found to be more numerous, as heads of the men, than the sons of Ithamar, and they divided them thus: for the sons of Eleazar, sixteen heads of fathers’ houses, and for the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers’ houses, eight.

5So they divided them by lots, these with those, because there were officers of the sanctuary and officers of God from the sons of Eleazar and from the sons of Ithamar.

6Shemaiah son of Nethanel, the scribe from among the Levites, recorded them in the presence of the king, the officials, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites—one father’s house being taken for Eleazar, and one being taken for Ithamar.

7The first lot came out for Jehoiarib, the second for Jedaiah.

8the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim.

9the fifth to Malkijah, the sixth to Mijamin.

10the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah.

11to Jeshua the ninth, to Shecaniah the tenth.

12the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim.

13for Huppah, the thirteenth; for Jeshebeab, the fourteenth.

14for Bilgah, the fifteenth; for Immer, the sixteenth.

15to Hezir the seventeenth, to Happizzez the eighteenth.

16for Pethahiah, the nineteenth; for Jehezkel, the twentieth.

17for Jakin, the twenty-first; for Gamul, the twenty-second.

18for Delaiah, the twenty-third; for Maaziah, the twenty-fourth.

19These were their appointed duties for their service, to enter the house of Yahweh according to their ordinance, under the hand of Aaron their father, as Yahweh, the God of Israel, had commanded him.

20And for the remaining sons of Levi: for the sons of Amram, Shubael; for the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah.

21For Rehabiah, from the sons of Rehabiah, the chief was Isshiah.

22For the Izharite: Shelomoth; for the sons of Shelomoth: Jahath.

23And the sons of Jeriah: Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.

24The sons of Uzziel: Micah; of the sons of Micah: Shamir.

25The brother of Micah: Isshiah; of the sons of Isshiah, Zechariah.

26The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Jaaziah: his son.

27The sons of Merari: of Jaaziah, his son, Shoham, Zaccur, and Ibri.

28For Mahli: Eleazar, and he had no sons.

29For Kish: the sons of Kish, Jerahmeel.

30And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth. These were the sons of the Levites according to their fathers' houses.

31These also cast lots alongside their brothers, the sons of Aaron, before King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites—the chief fathers’ houses as well as those of their younger brothers.
