1 Enoch 21

1I traveled on to a place where nothing had been made.

2There I saw a terrifying sight. I saw neither heaven above nor earth firmly established, but an unprepared and terrifying place.

3And there I saw seven stars of heaven, bound together in it, like great mountains, and burning with fire.

4Then I said, “For what sin were they bound, and why were they left here?”

5Uriel, one of the holy angels who was with me and guided me, said to me, “Enoch, whom are you asking about? About whom are you inquiring so eagerly?”

6These are among the stars that transgressed the command of the Lord, and they are bound here until ten thousand years are completed, the number of the days of their sins.

7From there I went to another place, more terrifying than this, and saw a terrifying sight: a great fire burning and blazing there. The place had a chasm reaching all the way to the abyss, with great pillars of fire descending into it. I could see neither its extent nor its size, nor could I estimate it.

8Then I said, “How terrifying this place is, and how painful to look at!”

9Then Uriel, one of the holy angels who was with me, answered me and said, “Enoch, why are you so afraid and dismayed?” I answered, “Because of this terrifying place and the sight of painful torment.”

10He said to me, “This place is the prison of the angels, and there they will be held forever.”
