1 Enoch 56

1There I saw troops of angels of punishment going, holding scourges and fetters of iron and bronze.

2I asked the angel of peace who was going with me, “To whom are these going, these who hold the scourges?”

3He said to me, “To their chosen and beloved ones, so that they may be thrown into the deep clefts of this valley.”

4Then that valley will be filled with their chosen and beloved ones. Their days of life will come to an end, and from then on the days of their wrongdoing will not be counted.

5In those days the angels will gather and turn their heads eastward, toward the people of Parthia and Media. They will stir up the kings and rouse a spirit of turmoil in their hearts, and they will remove them from their thrones. They will go out like lions from their lairs, like hungry wolves in the midst of their pasture.

6They will go up and march against his chosen one. The land of his chosen ones will become a threshing floor and a track before them.

7And the city of my righteous ones shall be a hindrance to their horses; and they will stir up slaughter among themselves, and their right hand will be strong against them. And a man will not know his brother, nor a son his father or his mother, until the number of the corpses from their death is complete, and their punishment will not be in vain.

8In those days Sheol will open its mouth, and they will sink into it. Their destruction will be complete. Sheol will swallow the sinners from before the face of the chosen ones.
