Enoch 98
Luxury Brings Shame and Destruction
Open in the reader →1And now I swear to you, to the wise and to the foolish, that you will see much upon the earth.
For you men love adornment on yourselves more than women, and companionship more than a virgin; in kingship and in greatness and in authority and in silver and gold and purple, and in splendor and in food they will be poured out like water.
Therefore they have no instruction or wisdom; and because of this they will perish together with their possessions, and with all their glory and their honor. And in shame, and in slaughter, and in great destitution, their spirits will be cast into the furnace of fire.
I swear to you, sinners: as a mountain has not become a servant, and a hill does not become a maidservant of a woman, so sin was not sent upon the earth; rather, men created it from themselves, and those who do it will come under a great curse.
And barrenness was not given to a woman; rather, because of the work of her hands she dies childless.
I have sworn to you, sinners, by the Great Holy One, that all your evil deeds are revealed in the heavens, and none of your deeds of violence are covered or hidden.
And do not imagine in your spirit, and do not say in your heart, that you do not know and do not see that every sin is written in heaven every day before the Most High.
From now on, know that all your violence that you commit is being written down every day until the day of your judgment.
Woe to you, fools, for you will perish in your folly, and you oppress the wise, and good will not come upon you.
And now know that you are prepared for the day of destruction, and do not hope that you sinners will live; rather, you will depart and die, for you do not know any ransom, because you have been made ready for it.
