1 Timothy 1

1Paul, an apostle of Messiah Jesus by the command of God our Savior and Messiah Jesus our hope,

2To Timothy, my true child in the faith: grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Messiah Jesus our Lord.

3Just as I urged you to remain in Ephesus when I was going into Macedonia, so that you might instruct certain people not to teach different doctrine,

4nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith—

5The goal of the instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith,

6Some, having missed these things, have turned aside to empty talk,

7wanting to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they are saying nor the things about which they speak so confidently.

8We know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully,

9understanding this: the law is not laid down for a righteous man, but for the lawless and rebellious, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and profane, those who kill their fathers and those who kill their mothers, murderers,

10the sexually immoral, men who have sex with men, servant traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is opposed to sound teaching,

11according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was entrusted to me.

12I give thanks to Messiah Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because he considered me faithful, appointing me to ministry,

13formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man; but I was shown mercy, because I acted ignorantly in unbelief,

14But the grace of our Lord overflowed all the more, with faith and love that are in Messiah Jesus.

15The saying is trustworthy and worthy of full acceptance: that Messiah Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

16But for this reason I received mercy, so that in me, as the foremost, Messiah Jesus might display all his patience as a pattern for those who were going to believe in him for eternal life.

17To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

18This charge I entrust to you, child Timothy, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, so that by them you may wage the good warfare,

19holding faith and a good conscience, which some, having rejected, have suffered shipwreck concerning the faith.

20among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan so that they may be taught not to blaspheme.
