Deuteronomy 22

1You shall not see your brother’s ox or his sheep driven away and ignore them; you must certainly return them to your brother.

2But if your brother is not near you, and you do not know him, then you shall bring it into your house, and it shall remain with you until your brother seeks it; then you shall restore it to him.

3And so you shall do with his donkey, and so you shall do with his cloak, and so you shall do with any lost thing of your brother that is lost from him and you find it; you may not ignore it.

4You shall not see your brother’s donkey or his ox fallen on the road and ignore them; you must surely lift them up with him.

5A woman shall not wear a man's article, and a man shall not put on a woman's garment, for everyone who does these things is an abomination to Yahweh your God.

6If a bird’s nest happens to be before you on the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the mother is sitting on the young ones or on the eggs, you shall not take the mother along with the young.

7You must surely let the mother go, but you may take the young for yourself, so that it may go well for you and you may prolong your days.

8When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, so that you do not bring bloodguilt on your house if someone falls from it.

9You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest the whole yield be forfeited—the seed that you sow and the produce of the vineyard.

10You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together.

11You shall not wear cloth made of wool and linen together.

12You shall make tassels for yourself on the four corners of your covering with which you cover yourself.

13If a man takes a wife and goes in to her, and then hates her,

14and he charges her with false accusations and brings a bad name upon her, saying, ‘I took this woman, and when I came near to her, I did not find evidence of virginity in her.’

15then the young woman’s father and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of the young woman’s virginity to the elders of the city at the gate.

16And the young woman’s father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man as a wife, and he hates her.’

17and look, he has charged her with slanderous words, saying, “I did not find your daughter a virgin.” But these are the proofs of my daughter’s virginity. And they shall spread out the garment before the elders of the city.

18Then the elders of that city shall take the man and discipline him,

19Then they shall fine him one hundred shekels of silver and give them to the father of the young woman, because he has brought a bad name upon a virgin of Israel. And she shall be his wife; he may not send her away all his days.

20But if this matter is true, and evidence of virginity was not found for the young woman,

21Then they shall bring out the young woman to the entrance of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, and she shall die, because she has committed an outrageous act in Israel by prostituting herself in her father's house. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

22If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die—the man who lay with the woman, and the woman. So you shall purge the evil from Israel.

23If there is a young woman, a virgin, pledged to a man, and another man finds her in the city and lies with her,

24then you shall bring both of them out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them with stones, and they shall die: the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbor’s wife. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

25But if in the open field the man finds the young woman who is betrothed, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die.

26But to the young woman you shall do nothing; the young woman has committed no sin deserving death. For this case is like when a man rises against his neighbor and murders him.

27For he found her in the field; the betrothed young woman cried out, but there was no one to rescue her.

28If a man finds a young woman, a virgin who is not engaged, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are discovered,

29Then the man who lay with her shall give fifty shekels of silver to the young woman's father, and she shall become his wife because he has violated her. He may not send her away all his days.
