Deuteronomy 23

1A man shall not take his father’s wife, nor uncover his father’s skirt.

2No man with crushed testicles or a severed penis may enter the assembly of Yahweh.

3No one of illegitimate birth may enter the assembly of Yahweh; even to the tenth generation, none of his descendants may enter the assembly of Yahweh.

4No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of Yahweh; even to the tenth generation, none of them may enter the assembly of Yahweh forever.

5because they did not meet you with bread and water on the way when you came out from Egypt, and because he hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor of Aram-naharaim against you to curse you.

6But Yahweh your God was not willing to listen to Balaam, and Yahweh your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because Yahweh your God loved you.

7You shall not seek their peace or their prosperity all your days forever.

8You shall not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. You shall not abhor an Egyptian, for you were a sojourner in his land.

9Children born to them in the third generation may enter the assembly of Yahweh.

10When you go out as an army against your enemies, then keep yourself from every evil thing.

11If there is among you a man who is not clean because of a nocturnal emission, he shall go outside the camp; he shall not come into the midst of the camp.

12And toward evening he shall wash himself with water, and when the sun sets he may come into the midst of the camp.

13And you shall have a place outside the camp, and you shall go out there, outside.

14And you shall have a peg among your equipment, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and turn back and cover your excrement.

15For Yahweh your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to give your enemies before you. Therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see in you anything indecent and turn away from you.

16You shall not hand over to his master a servant who has escaped from his master to you.

17He shall live with you, in your midst, in the place that he chooses within one of your gates, wherever it is good for him; you shall not oppress him.

18There shall not be a cult prostitute from the daughters of Israel, and there shall not be a cult prostitute from the sons of Israel.

19You shall not bring the wages of a prostitute or the price of a dog into the house of Yahweh your God for any vow, because both of them are an abomination to Yahweh your God.

20You shall not charge your brother interest on money, interest on food, or interest on anything that is lent at interest.

21You may charge interest to a foreigner, but to your brother you shall not charge interest, so that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the work of your hand in the land that you are entering to possess.

22But if you make a vow to Yahweh your God, you shall not delay in paying it, for Yahweh your God will surely require it from you, and it will be sin in you.

23But if you refrain from making a vow, there will be no sin in you.

24You shall keep what has gone out from your lips and do it, according to what you vowed to Yahweh your God as a freewill offering, which you spoke with your mouth.

25When you enter your neighbor’s vineyard, you may eat grapes as your appetite desires, until you are satisfied, but you shall not put any into your container.

26When you come into your neighbor’s standing grain, you may pluck heads with your hand, but you shall not put a sickle to your neighbor’s standing grain.
