Deuteronomy 26
Confess Firstfruits to the LORD
Open in the reader →1And when you come into the land that Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you take possession of it and live in it,
you shall take some of the firstfruits of all the fruit of the ground that you bring in from your land, which Yahweh your God is giving you, and put it in a basket, and go to the place that Yahweh your God will choose to make his name dwell there.
And you shall go to the priest who is in office in those days and say to him, ‘Today I declare to Yahweh your God that I have come into the land that Yahweh swore to our fathers to give to us.’
Then the priest shall take the basket from your hand and set it before the altar of Yahweh your God.
And you shall answer and say before Yahweh your God, ‘My father was a perishing Aramean, and he went down to Egypt and sojourned there, few in number; and there he became a great, mighty, and numerous nation.’
And the Egyptians treated us badly and afflicted us, and laid hard labor on us.
Then we cried out to Yahweh, the God of our fathers, and Yahweh heard our voice and saw our affliction, our labor, and our oppression.
And Yahweh brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror, and with signs and wonders.
And he brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.
And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the ground that you, O Yahweh, have given me. Then you shall set it down before Yahweh your God and bow down before Yahweh your God.
And you shall rejoice in all the good that Yahweh your God has given to you and to your household—you, and the Levite, and the sojourner who is among you.
When you have finished tithing all the tithe of your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, then you shall give it to the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, and they shall eat within your gates and be satisfied.
Then you shall say before Yahweh your God, ‘I have removed the holy portion from the house, and I have also given it to the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, according to all your commandment that you commanded me. I have not transgressed your commandments, nor have I forgotten them.’
I have not eaten any of it while in mourning, and I have not removed any of it while unclean, and I have not given any of it for the dead. I have obeyed the voice of Yahweh my God; I have done according to all that you commanded me.
Look down from your holy dwelling, from heaven, and bless your people Israel and the land that you have given us, as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.
This day Yahweh your God commands you to do these statutes and judgments; and you shall keep and do them with all your heart and with all your soul.
Today you have declared Yahweh to be your God, and that you will walk in his ways, keep his statutes, his commandments, and his judgments, and obey his voice.
And Yahweh has declared today that you are to be his treasured people, as he promised you, and that you are to keep all his commandments.
and to set you high above all the nations that he has made, for praise and for name and for beauty, and for you to be a holy people to Yahweh your God, as he has spoken.
