Deuteronomy 25

1If there is a dispute between men, and they come to court, and the judges decide between them, then they shall acquit the righteous and condemn the wicked,

2then, if the wicked man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall make him lie down and have him beaten before him, according to his wickedness, by number.

3He may strike him forty times, but no more, lest he go on to strike him with many more blows than these and your brother be degraded before your eyes.

4You shall not muzzle an ox while it is threshing.

5If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead man shall not be married outside the family to a stranger. Her husband's brother shall go in to her and take her as his wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her.

6And it shall be that the firstborn whom she bears shall rise up in the name of his dead brother, so that his name may not be blotted out from Israel.

7But if the man does not want to take his brother’s widow, then his brother’s widow shall go up to the gate, to the elders, and say, ‘My brother-in-law refuses to raise up a name for his brother in Israel; he is not willing to perform the duty of a brother-in-law to me.’

8Then the elders of his city shall call him and speak to him, and if he stands and says, “I do not desire to take her,”

9then his brother’s widow shall come near to him in the sight of the elders, remove his sandal from on his foot, spit in his face, and answer and say, ‘This is what shall be done to the man who will not build up his brother’s house.’

10And his name shall be called in Israel, ‘The house of him whose sandal was removed.’

11If men are fighting together, a man and his brother, and the wife of one comes near to rescue her husband from the hand of the one striking him, and she reaches out her hand and seizes his genitals,

12you shall cut off her hand; your eye shall not pity.

13You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a large and a small.

14You shall not have in your house an ephah and an ephah, a large and a small.

15You shall have a full and just weight; you shall have a full and just ephah, so that your days may be long on the land that Yahweh your God is giving you.

16For everyone who does these things, everyone who does injustice, is an abomination to Yahweh your God.

17Remember what Amalek did to you on the way when you came out from Egypt:

18how he met you on the way and attacked all the stragglers behind you, when you were weary and worn out; and he did not fear God.

19And when Yahweh your God gives you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget.
