Exodus 29
Priests Consecrated for Service
Open in the reader →1And this is the thing that you shall do for them to consecrate them to serve as priests for me: take one bull from the herd and two unblemished rams.
and unleavened bread, and unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers spread with oil; you shall make them of fine wheat flour.
You shall put them into one basket, and you shall bring them near in the basket, along with the bull and the two rams.
You shall bring Aaron and his sons near to the entrance of the tent of meeting, and you shall wash them with water.
Then you shall take the garments and clothe Aaron with the tunic, the robe of the ephod, the ephod, and the breastpiece, and you shall skillfully fasten it on him with the woven band of the ephod.
And you shall place the turban on his head, and put the holy diadem on the turban.
Then you shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him.
And you shall bring near his sons and clothe them with tunics.
You shall fasten sashes on them, on Aaron and on his sons, and you shall bind caps on them. The priesthood shall belong to them as a permanent statute. So you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.
You shall bring the bull before the tent of meeting, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the bull.
You shall slaughter the bull before Yahweh at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
And you shall take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and you shall pour out all the blood at the base of the altar.
Then you shall take all the fat that covers the entrails, the lobe on the liver, the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, and you shall burn them on the altar.
But the flesh of the bull, and its hide, and its dung, you shall burn with fire outside the camp; it is a sin offering.
Then you shall take the one ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram.
And you shall slaughter the ram, and take its blood and throw it against the altar all around.
Then cut the ram into its pieces, wash its entrails and its legs, and put them on its pieces and on its head.
And you shall burn the whole ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to Yahweh, a pleasing aroma, a food offering to Yahweh.
Then you shall take the second ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram.
Then you shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, and on the lobe of the right ear of his sons, and on the thumb of their right hand, and on the big toe of their right foot; and you shall throw the blood against the altar all around.
Then you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments and on his sons and on the garments of his sons with him; and he and his garments shall be holy, and his sons and the garments of his sons with him.
And you shall take from the ram the fat, and the fat tail, and the fat that covers the entrails, and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, and the right thigh, for it is a ram of ordination.
and one loaf of bread, one cake of bread with oil, and one wafer, from the basket of unleavened bread that is before Yahweh.
You shall put all of it on the palms of Aaron and on the palms of his sons, and you shall wave them as a wave offering before Yahweh.
Then you shall take them from their hands and burn them on the altar, on top of the burnt offering, as a pleasing aroma before Yahweh. It is an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
Then you shall take the breast from the ram of ordination that is for Aaron, and you shall wave it as a wave offering before Yahweh; and it shall be your portion.
And you shall consecrate the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution, which was waved and which was raised, from the ram of ordination, from what was Aaron's and from what was his sons'.
It shall belong to Aaron and to his sons as a permanent statute from the Israelites, for it is a contribution; it shall be a contribution from the Israelites, from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, their contribution to Yahweh.
And the holy garments that are Aaron’s shall belong to his sons after him, for anointing in them and for ordaining them in them.
For seven days the priest from among his sons who succeeds him shall put them on, when he enters the tent of meeting to minister in the holy place.
And you shall take the ram of ordination and boil its flesh in a holy place.
Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
They shall eat those things by which atonement was made, to ordain them and to consecrate them; but an outsider shall not eat them, because they are holy.
And if any of the flesh of the ordination offering or any of the bread is left until the morning, then you shall burn what is left with fire. It shall not be eaten, because it is holy.
And you shall do thus for Aaron and for his sons, according to all that I have commanded you. Seven days you shall ordain them.
And each day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement, and you shall purify the altar when you make atonement for it, and you shall anoint it to consecrate it.
For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it, and the altar shall be most holy. Whatever touches the altar shall become holy.
This is what you shall offer on the altar: two one-year-old lambs each day continually.
You shall offer the one lamb in the morning, and the second lamb you shall offer between the evenings.
and a tenth of fine flour mixed with a quarter of a hin of beaten oil, and a drink offering of a quarter of a hin of wine, for the one lamb.
And you shall offer the second lamb at twilight; you shall offer for it its grain offering and its drink offering, as in the morning, as a pleasing aroma, a food offering to Yahweh.
It shall be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the tent of meeting before Yahweh, where I will meet with you, to speak to you there.
There I will meet with the sons of Israel, and it will be sanctified by my glory.
And I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar; and I will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests.
And I will dwell among the sons of Israel, and I will be their God.
And they shall know that I am Yahweh their God, who brought them out from the land of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am Yahweh their God.
