Ezekiel Prophesies City’s Destruction

Open in the reader →

Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the house of Yahweh, which faces eastward. And behold, at the entrance of the gate were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.

And he said to me, “Son of man, these are the men who devise iniquity and give evil counsel in this city.”

who say, ‘It is not near to build houses. This city is the pot, and we are the meat.’

Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, son of man.

And the Spirit of Yahweh fell upon me, and he said to me, “Say, ‘Thus says Yahweh: So you have said, O house of Israel, and I know the things that come up in your spirit.’”

You have multiplied your slain in this city and filled its streets with the slain.

Therefore thus says Lord Yahweh: Your slain whom you have placed in its midst—they are the meat, and it is the pot; but you I will bring out from its midst.

You have feared the sword, and I will bring the sword upon you, declares the Lord GOD.

And I will bring you out from its midst, and I will give you into the hand of foreigners, and I will execute judgments on you.

You will fall by the sword; I will judge you at the border of Israel, and you will know that I am Yahweh.

It will not be for you as a pot, and you will not be within it as meat; at the border of Israel I will judge you.

Then you will know that I am Yahweh, in whose statutes you have not walked, and whose judgments you have not carried out, but you have acted according to the judgments of the nations that are around you.

And it happened, as I was prophesying, that Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell on my face and cried out with a loud voice and said, “Ah, Lord GOD, will you make a complete end of the remnant of Israel?”

And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

Son of man, your brothers, your brothers, the men of your redemption, and all the house of Israel, all of it—these are the ones to whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, ‘Go far away from Yahweh; this land has been given to us as a possession.’

Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: Though I removed them far off among the nations, and though I scattered them among the lands, yet I became for them a little sanctuary in the lands where they had gone.’

Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you from the lands where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.’

They will come there and remove from it all its detestable things and all its abominations.

And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh.

so that they may walk in my statutes and keep my judgments and do them, and they will be my people, and I will be their God.

But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abominations, I have brought their way upon their own heads, declares the Lord GOD.

Then the cherubim lifted up their wings, with the wheels beside them, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.

And the glory of Yahweh went up from the midst of the city and stood on the mountain that is east of the city.

Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the exiles in Chaldea, in the vision by the Spirit of God; and the vision that I had seen went up from me.

Then I spoke to the exiles all the words of Yahweh that he had shown me.
