Ezekiel 4

1And you, son of man, take for yourself a brick, set it before you, and engrave on it a city, Jerusalem.

2And set a siege against it, and build a siege wall against it, and heap up a ramp against it, and set camps against it, and place battering rams against it all around.

3And you, take for yourself an iron griddle and set it as an iron wall between yourself and the city, and set your face toward it; and it will be under siege, and you shall besiege it. It is a sign for the house of Israel.

4And you, lie on your left side, and place the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it; for the number of the days that you lie on it, you shall bear their iniquity.

5And I have assigned to you the years of their iniquity according to the number of days, three hundred and ninety days, and you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.

6When you have finished these, you shall lie down a second time on your right side, and you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah for forty days. I have assigned you a day for each year.

7And toward the siege of Jerusalem you shall set your face, with your arm bared, and you shall prophesy against it.

8And behold, I have put ropes on you, and you will not turn yourself from your side to your other side until you have completed the days of your siege.

9And you, take for yourself wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt, and put them into one vessel, and make them into bread for yourself. For the number of the days that you lie on your side—three hundred and ninety days—you shall eat it.

10And your food that you shall eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day; from time to time you shall eat it.

11And you shall drink water by measure, a sixth of a hin; from time to time you shall drink.

12You shall eat it as a barley cake, and you shall bake it over human dung in their sight.

13And Yahweh said, “Thus the sons of Israel will eat their bread unclean among the nations where I will drive them.”

14Then I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Look, I have never defiled myself. From my youth until now I have not eaten what dies of itself or what is torn by beasts, and no defiled meat has entered my mouth.”

15Then he said to me, “See, I have given you cow dung instead of human dung, and you shall prepare your bread over it.”

16Then he said to me, “Son of man, behold, I am breaking the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they will eat bread by weight and with anxiety, and they will drink water by measure and with horror.”

17so that they may lack bread and water, and each man and his brother may be appalled, and waste away in their iniquity.
