Ezekiel 5
Ezekiel Shaves Hair Symbolically
Open in the reader →1And you, son of man, take for yourself a sharp sword; take it as a barber’s razor, and pass it over your head and over your beard. Then take for yourself scales for weighing and divide the hair.
A third you shall burn in the fire in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are completed; and you shall take a third and strike it with the sword all around the city, and a third you shall scatter to the wind, and I will draw out a sword after them.
And you shall take from there a few in number and bind them in the folds of your garment.
And from them you shall take some more, and throw them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire. From it a fire will go out to all the house of Israel.
Thus says the Lord GOD: This is Jerusalem. I have set her in the midst of the nations, with lands all around her.
And she rebelled against my judgments with wickedness more than the nations, and against my statutes more than the lands that are around her; for they rejected my judgments, and they did not walk in my statutes.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have been more turbulent than the nations that are around you, you have not walked in my statutes, and you have not carried out my judgments; and you have not even acted according to the judgments of the nations that are around you.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I myself am against you, and I will execute judgments in your midst before the eyes of the nations.
And I will do in you what I have not done, and the like of which I will never do again, because of all your abominations.
Therefore fathers will eat sons in your midst, and sons will eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments on you and scatter all your remnant to every wind.
Therefore, as I live, declares the Lord GOD, surely because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things and with all your abominations, I also will diminish you; my eye will not spare, and I also will show no pity.
A third of you will die by pestilence and be consumed by famine in your midst, and a third will fall by the sword all around you, and a third I will scatter to every wind, and I will draw out a sword after them.
So my anger will be spent, and I will cause my wrath to rest on them, and I will be comforted. Then they will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken in my jealousy, when I spend my wrath against them.
And I will make you a ruin and a reproach among the nations that are around you, in the sight of everyone who passes by.
And you shall become a reproach and a taunt, a warning and a horror, to the nations that are around you, when I execute judgments on you in anger and in wrath and with wrathful rebukes. I am Yahweh; I have spoken.
When I send against them the deadly arrows of famine, which are for destruction, which I will send to destroy you, then I will add famine upon you and break for you the staff of bread.
And I will send famine and wild beasts against you, and they will bereave you; and pestilence and bloodshed will pass through you, and I will bring a sword upon you. I, Yahweh, have spoken.
