Hosea 1

Hosea Marries Unfaithful Gomer

Open in the reader →

1The word of Yahweh that came to Hosea son of Beeri in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel.

2The beginning of the word of Yahweh through Hosea. And Yahweh said to Hosea, “Go, take for yourself a wife of whoredom and children of whoredom, for the land utterly commits whoredom by turning away from Yahweh.”

3So he went and took Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.

4Then Yahweh said to him, “Call his name Jezreel, for in a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the bloodshed of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.”

5And on that day I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel.

6Then she conceived again and gave birth to a daughter. And he said to him, “Call her name Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer again show compassion to the house of Israel, that I should surely forgive them.”

7But I will have compassion on the house of Judah, and I will save them by Yahweh their God; I will not save them by bow, or by sword, or by war, by horses, or by horsemen.

8After she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived and gave birth to a son.

9And he said, “Call his name Not-My-People, for you are not my people, and I am not yours.”
