Hosea 2

1Yet the number of the sons of Israel will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted; and in the place where it is said to them, “You are not my people,” it will be said to them, “Sons of the living God.”

2Then the sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint for themselves one head, and they will go up from the land, for great will be the day of Jezreel.

3Say to your brothers, “My people,” and to your sisters, “Shown mercy.”

4Contend with your mother, contend, for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband; let her remove her prostitutions from her face and her adulteries from between her breasts.

5or else I will strip her naked and expose her as on the day she was born, and make her like the wilderness, and make her like a parched land, and let her die of thirst.

6And I will not show compassion to her children, for they are children of whoredom.

7For their mother has prostituted herself; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said, ‘I will go after my lovers, those who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’

8Therefore, behold, I am hedging up your way with thorns, and I will wall in her wall so that she will not find her paths.

9She will pursue her lovers, but she will not overtake them; she will seek them, but she will not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband, for it was better for me then than now.’

10But she did not know that it was I who gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil, and who multiplied silver for her and gold, which they made into Baal.

11Therefore I will return and take back my grain in its time, and my new wine in its season; and I will take away my wool and my flax, which were to cover her nakedness.

12And now I will uncover her nakedness before the eyes of her lovers, and no man will rescue her from my hand.

13And I will put an end to all her rejoicing—her feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths, and all her appointed times.

14And I will lay waste her vine and her fig tree, of which she said, ‘These are my wages that my lovers gave me.’ I will make them a forest, and the wild animals of the field will devour them.

15And I will punish her for the days of the Baals, when she burned incense to them and adorned herself with her ring and her jewelry, and went after her lovers, but forgot me, declares Yahweh.

16Therefore, behold, I am going to allure her, and I will lead her into the wilderness and speak to her heart.

17And from there I will give her her vineyards, and the Valley of Achor as a door of hope. There she will answer as in the days of her youth, as on the day when she came up from the land of Egypt.

18And in that day, declares Yahweh, you will call me ‘My husband,’ and you will no longer call me ‘My Baal.’

19And I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they will no longer be remembered by name.

20And on that day I will make for them a covenant with the wild animals of the field, with the birds of the heavens, and with the creeping things of the ground; and I will break bow and sword and war from the land, and I will make them lie down in safety.

21And I will betroth you to myself forever; yes, I will betroth you to myself in righteousness and in justice, and in steadfast love and in compassion.

22And I will betroth you to myself in faithfulness, and you shall know Yahweh.

23And it shall happen in that day, declares Yahweh, that I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth.

24and the earth will answer the grain, the new wine, and the oil, and they will answer Jezreel.

25And I will sow her for myself in the land, and I will have mercy on No Mercy, and I will say to Not My People, ‘You are my people,’ and he will say, ‘My God.’
