Isaiah 54

1Sing, barren woman, you who have not given birth; break forth into singing and shout for joy, you who have not been in labor. For the children of the desolate woman are more than the children of the married woman, says Yahweh.

2Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your dwellings be stretched out; do not hold back. Lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.

3For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your offspring will possess nations and will settle desolate cities.

4Do not fear, for you will not be put to shame; and do not be humiliated, for you will not be disgraced. For you will forget the shame of your youth, and you will remember the reproach of your widowhood no more.

5For your husband is your Maker; Yahweh of Armies is his name. And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; he is called the God of all the earth.

6For Yahweh has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is rejected, says your God.

7For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will gather you.

8In a surge of wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting lovingkindness I have had compassion on you, says Yahweh, your Redeemer.

9For this is like the waters of Noah to me: just as I swore that the waters of Noah would never again pass over the earth, so I have sworn not to be angry with you and not to rebuke you.

10For the mountains may depart and the hills may be shaken, but my steadfast love will not depart from you, and my covenant of peace will not be shaken, says Yahweh, who has compassion on you.

11O afflicted one, storm-tossed and not comforted, behold, I am setting your stones in antimony and laying your foundations with sapphires.

12And I will make your pinnacles of ruby, your gates of sparkling stone, and all your boundary walls of precious stones.

13And all your children will be taught by Yahweh, and great will be the peace of your children.

14In righteousness you will be established; you will be far from oppression, for you will not fear, and from terror, for it will not come near you.

15Look, if anyone stirs up strife, it is not from me; whoever stirs up strife with you will fall before you.

16Look, I myself have created the craftsman who blows on the fire of coals and brings out a weapon for his work; and I myself have created the destroyer to destroy.

17No weapon formed against you will succeed, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Yahweh, and their righteousness is from me, declares Yahweh.
