Isaiah 55

1Come, everyone who is thirsty, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

2Why do you weigh out silver for what is not bread, and your labor for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in richness.

3Incline your ear and come to me; hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant—the faithful covenant love promised to David.

4Behold, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples.

5Behold, you will call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you will run to you, because of Yahweh your God, and the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.

6Seek Yahweh while he may be found; call on him while he is near.

7Let the wicked man forsake his way, and the man of iniquity his thoughts; let him return to Yahweh, and he will have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways, declares Yahweh.

9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10For just as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there unless they have watered the earth, made it bear fruit, and made it sprout, and have given seed to the sower and bread to the eater,

11so will my word be that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I desire and succeed in the purpose for which I sent it.

12For you will go out with joy and be led in peace; the mountains and the hills will break out in singing before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

13Instead of the thornbush, the cypress will come up; instead of the brier, the myrtle will come up. And it will be for Yahweh a name, an everlasting sign that will not be cut off.
