Job 18

1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:

2How long will you hunt for words? Understand, and afterward we will speak.

3Why are we regarded as cattle and considered stupid in your eyes?

4You who tear yourself apart in your anger—shall the earth be abandoned for your sake, or a rock be moved from its place?

5Indeed, the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of his fire does not shine.

6The light in his tent grows dark, and his lamp above him is extinguished.

7His vigorous steps are constrained, and his own counsel casts him down.

8For his own feet carry him into a net, and he walks on a lattice.

9A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare holds him fast.

10His rope is hidden in the ground, and his trap on the path.

11Terrors frighten him on every side and chase him at his heels.

12His strength is famished, and calamity is ready at his side.

13It devours parts of his skin; the firstborn of death devours his limbs.

14He is torn from the security of his tent and marched off to the king of terrors.

15What is not his dwells in his tent; sulfur is scattered over his dwelling.

16His roots dry up beneath, and above, his branch is cut off.

17His memory perishes from the earth, and he has no name in the street.

18They drive him from light into darkness and banish him from the world.

19He has neither child nor grandchild among his people, and no survivor where he lived.

20Those in the west are appalled at his day, and those in the east are seized with horror.

21Surely these are the dwellings of a wrongdoer, and this is the place of one who does not know God.
